Anne McKeon

Anne McKeonBeing a lover of the outdoor life Anne McKeon has been gardening since she was a child. While still at school she worked for renowned Galway plant nursery owners Mary Joe and Charlie Madden in their premises in Taylors Hill. They became her great friends and mentors.

Having qualified in Horticulture from An Grianan, Termonfeckin, Co. Louth Anne worked for Ravensbergs Nurseries in Clara, Co. Offaly and Bill Madden Nurseries, Galway. On returning from Australia she continued to work in the Garden Centre world while at the same time planning to set up her own business. In 1989 she set up her Garden Design and Advisory business and continues to run that business to date. Besides designing gardens she runs workshops in gardening and gives gardening talks to various groups.

In 1993 Anne won BPW Business Woman of The Year for The West of Ireland and was Runner Up in the national finals. Anne has written two gardening books, one for beginners to the gardening world (Don’t forget your Shovel) and one for the little ones to get interested in gardening (Green Acres – Hobby Gardening For Children). She presents the gardening slot on Galway Bay FM radio and also writes for Upstairs Downstairs and various other publications on a regular basis.

For Anne gardening is her life’s passion and believes that gardening should be ‘A Hobby not a Chore’.
